About the CDL Permit Test

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required to operate large or heavy vehicles in the United States. The CDL knowledge test is administered by each state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and typically consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You must score at least 80% to pass.

CDL tests are divided into three vehicle classes and multiple endorsements. Class A covers combination vehicles over 26,001 lbs GCWR. Class B covers single vehicles over 26,001 lbs GVWR. Endorsements include HazMat (H), Tanker (N), Passenger (P), School Bus (S), and Doubles/Triples (T).

The best way to prepare is to study the official CDL handbook for your state and take multiple practice tests. Our free practice tests cover every topic and endorsement with questions that mirror the real DMV exam format.
